Adenocarcinoma of the prostate gland is the most common malignant tumor affecting adult males [1]. Among other rare histological variants of carcinoma of the prostate—such as clear-cell carcinoma and small-cell carcinoma—adenosquamous carcinoma of the prostate is an extremely rare neoplasm associated with a poor prognosis [2].

The histogenesis of this tumor remains uncertain. The stimulus for the development of the squamous metaplastic cells had been thought to be related to hormone and/or radiation therapy. We report a case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the prostate with immunoperoxidase staining for prostatic acid phosphatase in both squamous and adenomatous elements, indicating the likelihood of transformation of the adeno- matous component into a squamous component. presented. Adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the prostate is an unusual histological variant of prostate cancer. To our knowledge, only three cases of adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the prostate following radiation therapy have been reported.

Here we are reporting a case of this rare entity and a review of literature for its management. Rare Histological Variants of Prostate Adenocarcinoma: A National Cancer Database Analysis. Neuroendocrine, adenosquamous, sarcomatoid, signet ring cell and ductal variants more commonly present with metastases. All variants present with higher local stage than nonvariant. Primary adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the prostate (ASC) is an exceedingly rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer, making up <1% of all diagnoses. Since its initial description by Thompson in 1942, there have been fewer than 30 cases reported in the literature. Adenosquamous and sarcomatoid variants can, particularly, occur together.
